The Lauderhill Police Department offers several specialized assignments for the officer who chooses a specialized career path. With these specialized functions comes increased knowledge and expertise in the chosen field, enabling the officer to benefit both intrinsically as well as professionally. For the Department and the City, the benefits are seen in the very proficient and professional manner that these specialized functions carry out their assigned tasks.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS:
The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is commanded by Captain Rick Rocco. The Division is divided into two sections, Crimes Against Persons and Crimes Against Property. These are each led by a sergeant. The CID  contains criminal investigations detectives as well as two Crime Scene Investigators. Each member of the CID has areas that they specialize in and are responsible for following up and case preparation on all serious crimes that occur in Lauderhill.

CANINE HANDLER:
The Department currently has three K9 units, all are Belgian Malinois and are are multidisciplinary. The K9 handlers are Officer Ronald Torres, Officer Troy Levy and Officer Kevin Griffith.  

FEDERAL DETACHMENTS:
The Department detaches officers for multi-year assignments to work with various specialized Federal law enforcement functions. These positions provide Lauderhill with the opportunity to participate in high-level criminal investigations that ultimately help reduce lower-level criminal activity in Lauderhill.

ROAD PATROL:
The Department’s Road Patrol Division is the heart and soul of the Department, comprising of over 52 officers and 8 sergeants. Road Patrol is responsible for handling the day-to-day calls for service that take place in Lauderhill. In addition to responding to calls, Road Patrol officers proactively patrol the neighborhoods and business plazas for potential problems in order to assure the safest city possible.

   
 

TRAFFIC UNIT:
The Traffic Unit is comprised of specially trained teams of Police Officers and Police Service Aides (PSA’s) under the direction of Sergeant Gregory Solowsky.

Traffic Homicide Investigations and Motors Unit – These Members are tasked with patrolling in marked, unmarked, and motorcycles specifically targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and aggressive driving offenders. These Officers are also trained in the investigation and reconstruction of traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes.

 Hit and Run Investigations – These members are made up of Police Officers and Police Service Aides (PSA's) that assist in follow up investigations of all Hit and Run crashes that occur in the city. The PSA’s are also trained in the investigation of traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes.

The Traffic Unit is tasked with traffic control and enforcement within the City of Lauderhill. Our main purpose is to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities related to crashes, and to facilitate the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic through education and enforcement of State and local traffic regulations.

The Lauderhill Police Department’s Traffic Unit strives to provide the most efficient, effective, and professional law enforcement services to its citizens. To that end, our Traffic Unit strives to properly and thoroughly investigate traffic crashes that take place within the City of Lauderhill and enforce all State and local laws to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.

The Lauderhill Police Department’s Traffic Unit works alongside other law enforcement agencies within Broward County during Sobriety Checkpoints, Aggressive Driving Enforcement campaigns, and remaining active participants in State sponsored programs such as “Click it or Ticket” campaigns.
